Quote of the Lesson (दिन के उद्धरण)

“Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.”

    “अवसर सूर्योदय की तरह होते हैं। यदि आप ज्यादा देर तक प्रतीक्षा करते हैं तो आप उन्हें गंवा बैठते हैं।”

“Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly.”

    “प्रेरणा अंतर्मन से उत्पन्न होने वाली आग है। यदि आपके भीतर इस आग को जलाने का प्रयास किसी अन्य व्यक्ति द्वारा किया जाता है तो इस बात की संभावना है कि यह थोड़ी ही देर जलेगी।”

“Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.”

    “ना कहने का साहस रखें। सच्चाई का सामना करने का साहस रखें। सही कार्य करें क्योंकि यह सही है। यह जीवन को सत्यनिष्ठा से जीने की जादुई चाबियां हैं।”

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

    “हमारे भीतर क्या छिपा है इसकी तुलना में हमारे विगत में क्या था और हमारे भविष्य में क्या है, यह बहुत छोटी छोटी बातें है।”

“Don't let anyone steal your dream. It's your dream, not theirs.”

    “किसी को अपने सपने चुराने न दें। यह आपके अपने सपने हैं, न कि किसी ओर के।”

Technical word (तकनीकी शब्द)

Overwrite
In computing, overwriting refers to replacing old data with new data. There are two primary types of overwriting: 1) replacing text, and 2) replacing files.

1) Replacing text

The default behavior of most word processing programs is to insert characters where the cursor is located. However, some programs allow you to change the standard behavior from insert to overwrite (or "overtype"). If an application supports both modes, the Insert (INS) key can often be used to toggle between insert and overwrite mode.

Pretest
Before releasing products for sale, companies often pretest their products for safety and reliability. This process typically involves detecting and fixing errors and making improvements if necessary. In the computer industry, pretesting can be performed on both hardware and software.

Pixel
The term "pixel" is actually short for "Picture Element." These small little dots are what make up the images on computer displays, whether they are flat-screen (LCD) or tube (CRT) monitors. The screen is divided up into a matrix of thousands or even millions of pixels. Typically, you cannot see the individual pixels, because they are so small. This is a good thing, because most people prefer to look at smooth, clear images rather than blocky, "pixelated" ones. However, if you set your monitor to a low resolution, such as 640x480 and look closely at your screen, you will may be able to see the individual pixels. As you may have guessed, a resolution of 640x480 is comprised of a matrix of 640 by 480 pixels, or 307,200 in all. That's a lot of little dots.

Primary Key
A primary key is a unique identifier for a database record. When a table is created, one of the fields is typically assigned as the primary key. While the primary key is often a number, it may also be a text field or other data type. For example, if a database contains definitions of computer terms, it would make sense that each term is only listed once in the database. By defining the "Term" field as the primary key, it would ensure that no term is listed more than once in the database.

Packet
A chunk of data. The TCP/IP protocol breaks large data files into smaller "packets" for transmission over the Internet. When the data reaches its destination, the protocol makes sure that all packets arrived without error.

Parity Bit
A parity bit is a bit, with a value of 0 or 1, that is added to a block of data for error detection purposes. It gives the data either an odd or even parity, which is used to validate the integrity of the data.

Parity bits are often used in data transmission to ensure that data is not corrupted during the transfer process. For example, every 7 bits of data may include a parity bit (for a total of 8 bits, or one byte). If the data transmission protocol is set to an odd parity, each data packet must have an odd parity.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of copying someone else's work and publishing it as your own. This includes text, media, and even ideas. Whenever another person's work is copied and republished without an appropriate reference or citation, it is considered plagiarism. Examples of plagiarism range from small infractions such as not putting quotes around a quotation to blatant violations such as copying an entire website. Even if the original content has been modified, such as an altered image or a reworded article, it is still considered plagiarism if no credit is given to the original source.

Piconet
A piconet is a network that is created using a wireless Bluetooth connection. Some examples of piconets include 1) a cell phone and a computer, 2) a laptop and a Bluetooth-enabled digital camera, or 3) several PDAs that are connected to each other.

panel
In computer program development, a panel is a representation of what information will be sent to a user's display screen in given circumstances. Typically, when designing a program, the user interface is specified by portraying what information (text and pictures) will be presented to the user at different stages of using the program. For example, each menu, help page, or other form of content constitutes a panel of information that is to be implemented by developers and tested by early users. Since most applications are developed against the context of an operating system graphical user interface ( GUI ), these elements can sometimes be assumed in describing specific panels. Generally, in a windowed user interface, a panel is designed for each window of information.

Packet Switching
A method of moving data around the Internet that allows many people to use the same lines at the same time. In packet switching, all data being transferred from a machine is broken into packets, with each packet having the address of its origin and destination. This enables packets from different sources to be simultaneously transferred, sorted and directed on the same line.

Progressive Scan
Video signals are generated using horizontal lines. An interlaced picture draws every other line and alternates between drawing odd lines and even lines. A progressive scan picture draws every line in sequence. Therefore, a progressive scan video signal sends twice as much data than an interlaced signal each time it draws an image on the screen.

Parse
No, this is not a typo of the word "sparse." The word "parse" means to analyze an object specifically. It is commonly used in computer science to refer to reading program code. For example, after a program is written, whether it be in C++, Java, or any other language, the code needs to be parsed by the compiler in order to be compiled. Web scripts, written in scripting languages such as Perl or PHP, need to be parsed on the Web server so that they can output the correct HTML to a user's browser.

It's and Its

‘Its’ and ‘it’s’ are often mistakenly used in written English. Refer to the article on contractions: ‘it’s’ is a contraction for the words ‘it is’. On the other hand, ‘its’ is a possessive noun.

The following examples will make the usage clear.

IT’S (CONTRACTION FOR ‘IT IS’)

ITS (POSSESSION)

It’s quite hot toLesson.

The dog is wagging its tail.

It’s going to be a long Lesson.

The baby is sleeping in its cot.

Please go back to class immediately. It’s not right to skip classes.

The table is useless now. Its legs are broken.

Double Entendre

The double entendre is a literary device that is used in both literature and television and movie writing. Double entendres are phrases that can be understood two ways: one innocently, and the other bawdily. Often, the words are innocuous ones that can have a strong sexual overtone. Double entendres have been used for at least as long as people have been writing, and are prevalent in all eras of literature. This list provides some of the most notable (and a few obscure) examples of double entendres.

Literary Double Entendres

Shakespeare notably used double entendres in many of his plays. One of the most famous is Mercutio's line from Romeo and Juliet when he says, "Tis no less [a good Lesson], I tell you; for the bawdy hand of the dial is now upon the prick of noon." The dial the joke speaks of is that of a clock face, but by using the terms "bawdy hand" and "prick of noon", the joke also has a sexual overtone. Another perfect example actually comes from a character's name. In Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, the character of Charley Bates is often referred to as Master Bates, which did have the same meaning then as it does now.

Musical Double Entendres

One of the most notable double entendres in music is the song "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body, Would You Hold it Against Me" by the Bellamy Brothers. This song title has since been co-opted as a pick up line. While it's not a sexual double entendre, which is the most common type, the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was inspired by drug use. The song's lyrics are psychedelic and reminiscent of a trip on a mind-altering substance. Many people have also pointed out that the capitalized letters of the song spell out LSD. While the band denied it for many years, Paul McCartney admitted in 2004 that the song was obviously inspired by drugs. Madonna did something similar, naming an album M.D.N.A., which is very similar to the drug MDMA.

Accidental Double Entendres

Most accidental double entendres are not necessarily of a sexual nature, but can still be understood two ways. These remarks often come from newspaper, website, and magazine headlines. Some examples of accidental double entendres include "miners refuse to work after death," "children make nutritious snacks," and "criminals get nine months in violin case." As you can see, they're not bawdy, but there are multiple ways of understanding each of them.

Television and Movie Double Entendres

Perhaps the most common television and movie double entendres come from cartoons. As far as television shows, The Simpsons is notorious for its double entendres. For example, a character once expounded that he thought "women and seamen don't mix" while a female character was boarding a ship. These double entendres are meant to be humorous, as most double entendres are. Children's cartoon movies often slip in a few double entendres of their own. The purpose of these comments is to keep parents entertained, while the children don't catch the second meaning. For example, in Finding Nemo, characters are told to "think dirty thoughts."
