Quote of the Lesson (दिन के उद्धरण)

“To the question of your life you are the answer, and to the problems of your life you are the solution.”

    “आपके जीवन के प्रश्न का आप ही उत्तर हैं, और आपके जीवन की समस्याओं का आप ही उत्तर हैं।”

“Man's main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality.”

    “जीवन में मानव का मुख्य कार्य स्वयं का सृजन करना है, वह बनना जिसकी उसमें संभाव्यता है। उसके प्रयास का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण उत्पाद उसका स्वयं का व्यक्तित्व होता है।”

“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.”

    “अपने ऊपर विश्वास रखें। जितना आप करते हैं उससे कहीं अधिक आप जानते हैं।”

Page Orientation
Page orientation is the direction in which a document is displayed or printed. The two basic types of page orientation are portrait (vertical) and landscape (horizontal). Most monitors have a landscape display, while most documents are printed in portrait mode.

Before printing a document, you may be able to change the page orientation by selecting "Page Setup..." from the program's File menu. The default orientation is typically portrait, but you can change it to landscape if you want the width to be longer than the height. This may be useful for printing signs, cards, or other documents that require a wide display.

PPP
(Point to Point Protocol) - The protocol that allows a computer to use a phone line and a modem to make TCP/IP connections and connect to the Internet.

Podcast
The name "podcast" combines the terms iPod and broadcast into a single catchy word. As the name suggests, podcasts are audio and video broadcasts that can be played on an iPod. However, because podcasts are downloaded using Apple iTunes and can be played directly within the program, you don't actually need an iPod to listen to a podcast.

Protocol
Computer rules that provide uniform specifications so that all computer hardware and operating systems can communicate with each other.

PSTN
(Public Switched Telephone Network) - The regular telephone system.

Phase Alternation Line
Phase Alternation Line (PAL) is the analog television display standard that is used in Europe and certain other parts of the world. PAL is one of the three major TV standards together with the American National Television Systems Committee(NTSC) color television system and the French Sequential Couleur avec Memoire (SECAM). NTSC is also used in Japan. SECAM is used in countries of the former Soviet Union.

Like SECAM, PAL scans the cathode ray tube (CRT) horizontally 625 times to form the video image. NTSC scans 525 lines. Color definitions between the systems vary slightly.

QuickTime
A common video file format created by Apple Computers. Video files found on the Internet are often stored in this format, and require a browser plug-in to be viewed (.mov).

Queue
To avoid any confusion, this term is pronounced exactly like the letter "Q". It is not pronounced "kay" or "kyoo-ee" like some people seem to think it is. A queue is a list of jobs that are awaiting to be processed. When a job is sent to a queue, it is simply added to the list of jobs. Computer programs often work with queues as a way to order tasks. For example, when the CPU finishes one computation, it will process the next one in the queue.

QWERTY
This term is used to describe a standard (Latin alphabet-based) keyboard. Why? Because the first six keys in the upper-left part of the keyboard spell out Q-W-E-R-T-Y. I suppose you could call it a QWERTYUIOP keyboard, but QWERTY is a lot easier to say. In case you are wondering why the QWERTY keyboard is arranged like it is, the original reason was to reduce the jamming of typebars in typewriters as they moved to strike the paper.

In 1932, August Dvorak developed what was intended to be a more efficient keyboard, in which he placed the vowels and the five most common consonants in the middle row, based on the idea that an alternating rhythm would be established between the right and left hands.

Quantum theory
Quantum theory is the theoretical basis of modern physics that explains the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic level. In 1900, physicist Max Planck presented his quantum theory to the German Physical Society. Planck had sought to discover the reason that radiation from a glowing body changes in color from red, to orange, and, finally, to blue as its temperature rises. He found that by making the assumption that energy existed in individual units in the same way that matter does, rather than just as a constant electromagnetic wave - as had been formerly assumed - and was therefore quantifiable, he could find the answer to his question. The existence of these units became the first assumption of quantum theory.

Common Mistakes To Be Avoided (आम गलतियों को टाला जा सकता)

Loose Lose

‘Lose’ and ‘loose’ are often mixed up, and this is understandable because there is only an ‘o’ of difference between them. They do not, however, have any meanings in common.

‘Loose’ is generally used as an adjective, the opposite of tight or contained.

The dog is running loose in the streets.

These jeans are loose around my waist.

‘Lose’ is a verb that means to suffer the loss of, to miss.

Don’t lose the car keys.

We cannot afford to lose this match.

English Improving ,Tips of the Lesson (अंग्रेजी में सुधार, दिन की टिप्स)

Pop Culture Double Entendres

As mentioned, newspapers, magazines, and websites often create double entendres by the way they word their headlines. This also happens in broadcast news and other live presentations. They even happen in everyLesson conversation, often without the speaker realizing it. As mentioned, pick up lines are very often double entendres. Another great source of double entendres is advertising. For example, in the script promoting a handheld chopping device, the announcer says "you're gonna love my nuts" while he is, indeed, chopping nuts. A recent series of commercials for Zellers promotes "shipping your pants" and "big gas savings", which may not seem like double entendres until they are heard spoken aloud.

Many people say double entendres in their daily lives without even realizing it. Even reporters and journalists make double entendres, sometimes unintentionally. Television, movies, and music all make use of double entendres in dialogue, titles, and lyrics. While the use of double entendres dates back through Chaucer and Shakespeare to ancient literature, they are still used, sometimes unintentionally, toLesson. Pay attention to advertisements, movies, songs, and conversations to see if you can spot them.

Spoonerism

Sometimes language can get boring as you use the same words Lesson after Lesson. But there is a way to have fun with language. You can use spoonerisms, or a play on speech (sometimes intentional, mostly not) in which the beginning sounds of corresponding words could be transposed for humorous purposes. There are easy steps to take to get started with this entertaining language play that will not only amuse, but expand your linguistic prowess and mental agility. Following are some tips and examples of spoonerisms.

Switch Your Sounds

The easiest and most basic way to create a spoonerism is to switch the starting sounds of any phrase or words. For example, "fat man" becomes "mat fan." The words don't have to be real words, but the most appreciated spoonerisms do, in fact, take real words and change them into other real words. This is an added challenge that should be worked up to after you've practiced switching sounds for a while.

Practice Your Spoonerisms

If you're just getting started with spoonerisms, you should switch the beginning sounds of any words you choose just to get a feel for manipulating language in such an unusual way, even if the words are gibberish. Eventually, you'll find yourself naturally altering word combinations that actually make new, legitimate words. For example, you might say, "Do you want lamb for hunch?" when you really mean "Do you want ham for lunch?" Notice how the spelling can be altered in the written scenarios. Spoken spoonerisms are generally more appreciated if they phonetically match both versions and can be easily deconstructed and understood. Also note, single words like "bullfight" can be adjusted to "full bite," opening up even more opportunities to play with language.
