Common Mistakes To Be Avoided (आम गलतियों को टाला जा सकता)
Loose Lose
‘Lose’ and ‘loose’ are often mixed up,
and this is understandable because there is only an
‘o’ of difference between them. They do not,
however, have any meanings in common.
‘Loose’ is generally used as an adjective, the
opposite of tight or contained.
The dog is
running loose in the streets.
These jeans are
loose around my waist.
‘Lose’ is a
verb that means to suffer the loss of, to miss.
Don’t lose the car keys.
We cannot afford
to lose this match.
English Improving ,Tips of the Lesson (अंग्रेजी में सुधार, दिन
की टिप्स)
Pop Culture Double Entendres
As
mentioned, newspapers, magazines, and websites often create
double entendres by the way they word their headlines. This also
happens in broadcast news and other live presentations. They
even happen in everyLesson conversation, often without the
speaker realizing it. As mentioned, pick up lines are very often
double entendres. Another great source of double entendres is
advertising. For example, in the script promoting a handheld
chopping device, the announcer says "you're gonna love
my nuts" while he is, indeed, chopping nuts. A recent
series of commercials for Zellers promotes "shipping your
pants" and "big gas savings", which may not seem
like double entendres until they are heard spoken aloud.
Many people say double entendres in their daily lives
without even realizing it. Even reporters and journalists make
double entendres, sometimes unintentionally. Television, movies,
and music all make use of double entendres in dialogue, titles,
and lyrics. While the use of double entendres dates back through
Chaucer and Shakespeare to ancient literature, they are still
used, sometimes unintentionally, toLesson. Pay attention to
advertisements, movies, songs, and conversations to see if you
can spot them.
Spoonerism
Sometimes
language can get boring as you use the same words Lesson after
Lesson. But there is a way to have fun with language. You can
use spoonerisms, or a play on speech (sometimes intentional,
mostly not) in which the beginning sounds of corresponding words
could be transposed for humorous purposes. There are easy steps
to take to get started with this entertaining language play that
will not only amuse, but expand your linguistic prowess and
mental agility. Following are some tips and examples of
spoonerisms.
Switch Your Sounds
The
easiest and most basic way to create a spoonerism is to switch
the starting sounds of any phrase or words. For example,
"fat man" becomes "mat fan." The words
don't have to be real words, but the most appreciated
spoonerisms do, in fact, take real words and change them into
other real words. This is an added challenge that should be
worked up to after you've practiced switching sounds for a
while.
Practice Your Spoonerisms
If
you're just getting started with spoonerisms, you should
switch the beginning sounds of any words you choose just to get
a feel for manipulating language in such an unusual way, even if
the words are gibberish. Eventually, you'll find yourself
naturally altering word combinations that actually make new,
legitimate words. For example, you might say, "Do you want
lamb for hunch?" when you really mean "Do you want ham
for lunch?" Notice how the spelling can be altered in the
written scenarios. Spoken spoonerisms are generally more
appreciated if they phonetically match both versions and can be
easily deconstructed and understood. Also note, single words
like "bullfight" can be adjusted to "full
bite," opening up even more opportunities to play with
language.
