Quote of the Lesson (दिन के उद्धरण)

“My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.”

“जिंदगी का मेरा सूत्र बहुत ही सरल है. मैं सुबह जागता हूं तथा रात को सो जाता हूं. इसके बीच में मैं जितना हो सके स्वयं को व्यस्त रखता हूं.”

“It is not length of life, but depth of life, which is important.”

“लम्बी आयु का महत्व नहीं है जितना महत्व इसकी गहनता है.”

“I love life because what more is there.”

“मैं जीवन से प्यार करता हूं क्योंकि इसके अलावा और है ही क्या. ”

“The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.”

“अपने सपनों को साकार करने का सर्वश्रेष्ठ तरीका है कि आप जाग जाएं. ”

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

“पूरा जीवन एक अनुभव है. आप जितने अधिक प्रयोग करते हैं, उतना ही इसे बेहतर बनाते हैं.”

Technical word (तकनीकी शब्द)

Backbone
A high-speed line, or series of connections, that forms a major pathway within a network. This term is relative, as a backbone in a small network may be much smaller than non-backbone lines in a large network.

Baud
The baud rate of a modem is how many bits it can send or receive per second.

BBS
(Bulletin Board System) - An online meeting and information system that allows people to carry on discussions, make announcements and transfer files. There are thousands of BBS's around the world, varying in size from those running on a single machine with only 1 or 2 phone lines, to massive networks such as CompuServe.

Binhex
(BINary HEXadecimal) - A method for converting non-text files into ASCII files. This is required because Internet email can only handle ASCII files.

Bit
(Binary DigIT) - A bit is the smallest unit of computerized data, comprised of either a 0 (off) or a 1 (on). Bandwidth is usually measured in bits-per-second.

BITNET
('Because It's Time NETwork' or 'Because It's There NETwork') - A network of educational sites separate from the Internet. Listserv, the most popular form of email discussion groups, originated on BITNET.

Bps
(Bits per second) - A measurement of how fast data is moved from one place to another. A 28.8 modem can move data at 28,800 bits per second.

Bookmark
A pointer to a Web site of interest. Within browsers, pages can be "bookmarked" for quick reference, rather than remembering and typing the complete URL in the address bar.

Browser
A software program that is used to view websites and other Internet resources on the WWW.

BTW
(By The Way) - A shorthand term appended to a comment in an online forum or email.

Byte
A set of bits that represent a single character. There are usually 8 bits in a byte.

bar code (or barcode)
A bar code (often seen as a single word, barcode) is the small image of lines (bars) and spaces that is affixed to retail store items, identification cards, and postal mail to identify a particular product number, person, or location. The code uses a sequence of vertical bars and spaces to represent numbers and other symbols. A bar code symbol typically consists of five parts
a quiet zone, a start character, data characters (including an optional check character), a stop character, and another quiet zone.
A barcode reader is used to read the code. The reader uses a laser beam that is sensitive to the reflections from the line and space thickness and variation. The reader translates the reflected light into digital data that is transferred to a computer for immediate action or storage. Bar codes and readers are most often seen in supermarkets and retail stores, but a large number of different uses have been found for them. They are also used to take inventory in retail stores; to check out books from a library; to track manufacturing and shipping movement; to sign in on a job; to identify hospital patients; and to tabulate the results of direct mail marketing returns. Very small bar codes have been used to tag honey bees used in research. Readers may be attached to a computer (as they often are in retail store settings) or separate and portable, in which case they store the data they read until it can be fed into a computer.

Bellcore (Bell Communications Research)
Bellcore (Bell Communications Research) provides certain centralized research and standards coordination for the regional Bell operating companies (RBOC)s. It also coordinates security and emergency preparedness for the U.S. government. Bellcore was formed in 1984 when AT&T was broken up into the seven RBOCs. Bellcore's budget comes from the RBOCs. Bellcore coordinated the design for the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN).

Big Blue (IBM)
Big Blue refers to IBM, which has used blue as a branding color in its logo and elsewhere.

blackbody
A blackbody (sometimes spelled "black body") is a theoretically ideal radiator and absorber of energy at all electromagnetic wavelength s. The term comes from the fact that a cold blackbody appears visually black.

Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a telecommunications industry specification that describes how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) can be easily interconnected using a short-range wireless connection. Using this technology, users of cellular phones, pagers, and personal digital assistants can buy a three-in-one phone that can double as a portable phone at home or in the office, get quickly synchronized with information in a desktop or notebook computer, initiate the sending or receiving of a fax, initiate a print-out, and, in general, have all mobile and fixed computer devices be totally coordinated.

British Standards Institution (BSI)
The British Standards Institution (BSI) is a service organization that produces standards across a wide variety of industry sectors. Its codes of practice and specifications cover management and technical subjects ranging from business continuity management to quality requirements.
BSI was founded in 1901 in the UK as the Engineering Standards Committee and now operates in more than 140 countries globally. BSI British Standards, part of the BSI Group, acts as the UK's National Standards Body (NSB) and works closely with the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). BSI British Standards has around 31,000 current standards.

Back Orifice
Back Orifice is a rootkit program designed to expose the security deficiencies of Microsoft's Windows operating systems. The program's name is inspired by the name of Microsoft's BackOffice product. Created by a group of hackers called the Cult of the Dead Cow, Back Orifice allows someone at one computer to control everything on another, remote computer running Windows. Back Orifice can sniff passwords, record keystrokes, access a desktop's file system and more, while remaining undetected.

backbone
A backbone is a larger transmission line that carries data gathered from smaller lines that interconnect with it.
1) At the local level, a backbone is a line or set of lines that local area networks connect to for a wide area network connection or within a local area network to span distances efficiently (for example, between buildings).
2) On the Internet or other wide area network, a backbone is a set of paths that local or regional networks connect to for long-distance interconnection. The connection points are known as network nodes or telecommunication data switching exchanges (DSEs).

backscatter body scanning
Backscatter body scanning is an X-ray-based technology that yields a high-resolution image of a person's body beneath their clothing to reveal concealed objects. The process involved is sometimes referred to as "backscatting." Backscatter devices have been used for several years in prisons, diamond mines, and customs searches, and are used in some airports as an alternative to metal-detection and pat-downs for security.
In a backscatter portal, a single ray is passed rapidly over a person's body, taking just eight seconds to scan each side. Data collected from the position of scattered photons are processed to deliver a photographic-quality image. The process uses high-energy X-rays, which tend to reflect (scatter back) from objects, unlike the low-energy X-rays used for medical procedures, which tend to penetrate objects. Because of an effect called "Compton scattering," the rays are deflected differently depending on the density of the matter being scanned. They penetrate clothing but not flesh and are blocked more completely by solid objects. This effect means that most weapons will be sharply revealed by backscatter imaging. However, some critics of the devices claim that because the X-rays used in backscatter devices do not penetrate skin, the devices could be foiled by people with certain physical characteristics, such as overlapping body parts, that make it possible for them to hide an object on their naked bodies.

backside bus
In a personal computer with an Intel processor chipset that includes a Dual Independent Bus (DIB), the frontside bus is the data path and physical interface between the processor and the main memory (RAM). The backside bus is the data path and physical interface between the processor and the L1 and L2 memory. Both the frontside bus and the backside bus can be in use at the same time, meaning that the processor gets more done in a given number of pulses per second (see clock speed).
Prior to Intel's Pentium Pro processor, both the L2 cache and RAM were accessed using the same bus, creating an occasional bottleneck and reducing the overall throughput of the computer. Beginning with the Pentium Pro, the level-2 (L2) is packaged on the same module or chipset as the processor. Intel's Dual Independent Bus (DIB) design separates and coordinates accesses between the processor and RAM and accesses between the processor and the L2 cache. The frontside bus operates at 66 or 100 MHz, depending on the chipset. In the Pentium Pro, the backside bus (to the L2 cache) operates at the same clock speed as the processor. In the Pentium II, the backside bus operates at one-half the processor clock speed.

backup robot
A backup robot is an automated USB 2.0 external storage device that supports multiple removable SATA hard drives.
Data Robotics' "Drobo" is the first example of a digital backup robot. It doesn't use robotic arms to manipulate hardware. Instead, it automatically formats and distributes data between the different hard drives inside of it, using storage virtualization technology to back up each drive onto the other ones.
Each drive is hot swappable, which allows a user to switch out drives and continue to work with files stored on the system without powering down and reconfiguring the array (unlike RAID). Drobo can both sense and repair redundancy against unexpected faults by backing up to other disks in the device.

Common Mistakes To Be Avoided (आम गलतियों को टाला जा सकता)

Adverse Averse

‘Adverse’ and ‘averse’ are not only spelled similarly (with the ‘d’ in ‘adverse’ being the only difference), they are also both adjectives with negative connotations, and hence easily confused.

‘Adverse’ means ‘unfavourable’, or ‘harmful’. Therefore, if a sportsman is said to perform well in adverse conditions, it means that he or she performs well in conditions that are not easy to play in. It is used in reference to things, actions or events, rather than people.

‘Averse’ describes a strong disinclination. It is used of things and people, but we never speak of an averse thing or person. It is most often used in the form averse to, as in I am averse to speaking in public.
