Quote of the Lesson

“Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice: It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.”

    “भाग्य कोई संयोग का विषय नहीं है। यह विकल्प का विषय है। यह कोई ऐसी वस्तु नहीं है जिसके लिए प्रतीक्षा की जाए, यह वह वस्तु है जिसे प्राप्त किया जाना चाहिए।”

“There are two primary choices in life- to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.”

    “जीवन में दो मूलभूत विकल्प होते हैं- या तो परिस्थितियों को जैसी हैं वैसा ही स्वीकार करें, अथवा उन्हें बदलने का उत्तरदायित्व स्वीकार करें।”

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

    “अपना जीवन जीने के केवल दो ही तरीके हैं। पहला यह मानना कि कोई चमत्कार नहीं होता है। दूसरा है कि हर वस्तु एक चमत्कार है।”

“Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man.”

    “प्रत्येक शिशु एक संदेश लेकर आता है कि भगवान मनुष्य को लेकर हतोत्साहित नहीं है।”

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”

    “यदि आप दूसरों को खुश देखना चाहते हैं तो सहानुभूति को अपनाएं। यदि आप खुश होना चाहते हैं तो सहानुभूति अपनाएं।”

Technical word (तकनीकी शब्द)

Superscalar
A superscalar CPU can execute more than one instruction per clock cycle. Because processing speeds are measured in clock cycles per second (megahertz), a superscalar processor will be faster than a scalar processor rated at the same megahertz.

A superscalar architecture includes parallel execution units, which can execute instructions simultaneously. This parallel architecture was first implemented in RISC processors, which use short and simple instructions to perform calculations.

Syntax
Every spoken language has a general set of rules for how words and sentences should be structured. These rules are collectively known as the language syntax. In computer programming, syntax serves the same purpose, defining how declarations, functions, commands, and other statements should be arranged.

Many computer programming languages share similar syntax rules, while others have a unique syntax design. For example, C and Java use a similar syntax, while Perl has many characteristics that are not seen in either the C or Java languages.

Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is a document that stores data in a grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns. Rows are typically labeled using numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.), while columns are labeled with letters (A, B, C, etc). Individual row/column locations, such as C3 or B12, are referred to as cells. Each cell can each store a unique instance of data. By entering data into a spreadsheet, information can be stored in a more structured way than using plain text The row/column structure also allows the data to be analyzed using formulas and calculations.

Start Menu
The Start menu is a feature of the Windows operating system that provides quick access to programs, folders, and system settings. By default, the Start menu is located in the lower-left corner of the Windows desktop. In Windows 95 through Windows XP, the Start menu can be opened by clicking the "Start" button. In newer versions of Windows, such as Windows Vista and Windows 7, the Start menu can be opened by clicking the Windows logo. Some keyboards also have a Windows key that opens the the Start menu when pressed.

SQL
(Structured Query Language) - A specialized programming language for sending queries to databases. Each application will have its own version of SQL-implementing features unique to that application, but all SQL-capable databases will support a common subset of SQL.

Spooling
Spooling is the process of a sending data to a spool, or temporary storage area in the computer's memory. This data may contain files or processes. Like a spool of thread, the data can build up within the spool as multiple files or jobs are sent to it. However, unlike a spool of thread, the first jobs sent to the spool are the first ones to be processed (FIFO, not LIFO).

Status Bar
A status bar is a small area at the bottom of a window. It is used by some applications to display helpful information for the user. For example, an open folder window on the desktop may display the number of items in the folder and how many items are selected. Photoshop uses the status bar to display the size of the current image, the zoom percentage, and other information. Web browsers use the status bar to display the Web address of a link when the user moves the cursor over it. It also shows the status of loading pages, and displays error messages.

Speech Recognition
Speech recognition is the capability of an electronic device to understand spoken words. A microphone records a person's voice and the hardware converts the signal from analog sound waves to digital audio. The audio data is then processed by software, which interprets the sound as individual words. A common type of speech recognition is "speech-to-text" or "dictation" software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, which outputs text as you speak. While you can buy speech recognition programs, modern versions of the Macintosh and Windows operating systems include a built-in dictation feature. This capability allows you to record text as well as perform basic system commands.

SSL
(Secure Sockets Layer) - A protocol designed by Netscape Communications to enable encrypted, authenticated communication across the Internet. SSL is used mostly, but not exclusively, in communications between web browsers and web servers. A URL that begins with "https" instead of "http" indicates an SSL connection will be used.

Spoofing
The word "spoof" means to hoax, trick, or deceive. Therefore, in the IT world, spoofing refers tricking or deceiving computer systems or other computer users. This is typically done by hiding one's identity or faking the identity of another user on the Internet.

Spoofing can take place on the Internet in several different ways. One common method is through e-mail. E-mail spoofing involves sending messages from a bogus e-mail address or faking the e-mail address of another user. Fortunately, most e-mail servers have security features that prevent unauthorized users from sending messages.

Speakers
Speakers are one of the most common output devices used with computer systems. Some speakers are designed to work specifically with computers, while others can be hooked up to any type of sound system. Regardless of their design, the purpose of speakers is to produce audio output that can be heard by the listener. Speakers are transducers that convert electromagnetic waves into sound waves. The speakers receive audio input from a device such as a computer or an audio receiver.

Spool
A spool is a temporary storage area within the computer's RAM that contains input or output data. When a job or process is initiated on a computer, but cannot be run immediately, it is often placed in a spool. This process is called spooling. The spool holds the data until the appropriate device is ready to use it.

The most common type of spool is a print spool, which stores print jobs that are sent to a printer. Since the printer may need to warm up before printing a document, the document may be held in the spool during the printer's warm up process. If there are multiple documents that have been sent to the printer, the print spool may contain a queue of jobs.

Sysop
(SYStem OPerator) - Someone responsible for the physical operations of a computer system or network. A System Administrator (or Sysadmin) decides how often system maintenance should be performed, and the Sysop performs those tasks.

Spam
Originating from the name of Hormel's canned meat, "spam" now also refers to junk e-mail or irrelevant postings to a newsgroup or bulletin board. The unsolicited e-mail messages you receive about refinancing your home, reversing aging, and losing those extra pounds are all considered to be spam. Spamming other people is definitely not cool and is one of the most notorious violations of Internet etiquette (or "netiquette"). So if you ever get the urge to let thousands of people know about that hot new guaranteed way to make money on the Internet, please reconsider.

Spider
A spider is a software program that travels the Web (hence the name "spider"), locating and indexing websites for search engines. All the major search engines, such as Google and Yahoo!, use spiders to build and update their indexes. These programs constantly browse the Web, traveling from one hyperlink to another.

For example, when a spider visits a website's home page, there may be 30 links on the page. The spider will follow each of the links, adding all the pages it finds to the search engine's index.

Common Mistakes To Be Avoided

Since and For

The words ‘since’ and ‘for’ are often confused by English language speakers. There is a simple rule to follow to differentiate between the usage of these twowords.

SINCE is used to talk about time from a specific period while FOR is used to talk abouta length of time.

I have been living in Delhi since 11002.
I have been living in Delhi for twenty years.

I have been studying since seven a.m. toLesson.
I have been studying for eight hours.

My tutor has taught me since January this year.

English Improving ,Tips of the Lesson

Avoid Making Mistakes

Once people have graduated from high school, they are usually decent at spelling. However, there are some common words which many people seem to frequently misspell. These are often words which sound the same as other words when spoken, but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Below, read about some commonly misspelled words and some tips and tricks you are able to use to avoid spelling them incorrectly.

"Your" and "You're"

"Your" refers to something someone possesses, such as in the sentences "I have your ball" or "Go pick up your book," while "You're" is the contractive form of "You are," within which the apostrophe takes the place of the space and the "a." This is seen within the sentences "You're looking very nice toLesson," or "You're very fast at running." Either of these sentences will still make sense if you use "You are" instead of "You're." Even though the difference between "Your" and "You're" seems rather easy to understand, people still confuse them, likely due to a lack of forethought before using them. If you are confused as to which one to use in a particular sentence, try the sentence with "you are." If the sentence still makes sense, use "you're," but if it doesn't, go with "your."

"There," "Their," and "They're"

"There" refers to a specific or non-specific place; for example, "New York is a huge city. I will go there in the fall," or "Look at the man over there." "Their," like "your," suggests possession; for example, "I have their ball," or "They must go pick up their book." "They're" is a contraction, representing "They are," with the apostrophe taking the spot of the space and the "a." If you're confused as to which of the three words to use in a particular sentence, try out the sentence with "they are." If the sentence makes sense with "they are," such as "They are very fast at running," it will also make sense with they're, as in "They're very fast at running." If the sentence does not make sense with "they are," you must choose either "their" or "there" instead. If the sentence makes sense with the word "our," it will also make sense with "their." For example, "I have our ball," and "I have their ball." If it does not make sense with "our," then "their" is not the correct word choice. Notice that the third option, "there," contains the word "here." This makes sense, as "there" refers to a place, so remember that when you are substituting the name of a place with one of the three words, choose "there."

"To," "Too," and "Two"

"To" is a preposition which connects two words within a sentence, and it also signifies that someone will go somewhere or do something. For example, "They will go to the store," connects "they" with "the store" and signifies that "they" will go. "Too" is another word for "also," or "as well," as in the sentence "Mark will come, too." "Two" is the correct spelling for the number two. There is no quick trick for memorizing the spelling of the number, but if you draw a large numeral, write the spelling beneath it, and make sure you look at this illustration a couple of times a Lesson, the spelling should stick within your mind. Never use this spelling to refer to anything besides the numeral. As for "to" and "too," the word "too" signifies an additional person or thing, so it is logical that you need to add an extra "o." If a sentence does not need an additional person or thing signified, do not use "too."

"Its" and "It's"

"Its" is a word signifying possession, as in "The dog put the ball in its mouth," and "it's" is the contractual form of "it is." However, often people use "it's" when they are supposed to be using "its." If you're writing a particular sentence and it would not make sense with "it is," do not use "it's," but use "its" instead. "The dog put the ball in it is mouth" does not make sense, so "The dog put the ball in it's mouth," is not correct, either.

"Lose" and "Loose"

"Lose" is a verb meaning that you will lose possession of something tangible or intangible, as in "You will lose your gloves if you aren't careful," or "You will lose the race if you don't practice." "Loose" means that something is not tight, as in "My gloves are very loose." In order to determine which of the two you must use, remember that if something is "loose," it is usually bigger, and therefore more roomy, so use the larger, roomier word with the "o" doubled. With "lose," it is logical that you must lose an "o" since the word refers to the loss of something.

If you use these tips and tricks, it will be easier to make sure you spell these commonly misspelled words correctly. Your word processing software will not necessarily pick up mistakes with these words, as the misspelled versions are existing words, just not the right ones in the particular context you are using. Therefore, you have to learn the rules. At first, it will seem time-consuming to have to think about which word to use based on these rules, but eventually it will become second nature. Spelling these words incorrectly will often cause a reader to misconstrue their meaning, so once you start spelling them correctly, your writing will become much more clear to others.
